On this first day of winter, I stepped outside barefoot into the snow, embracing the bitter cold as it connected me to the earth beneath. It’s become a cherished way for me to celebrate the winter solstice—walking to my favorite rock, a place of grounding and reflection. There’s a peace in these moments of connection with nature, even in the face of winter’s challenges.
The snow-covered rock was slippery, adding an extra layer of challenge as I set up my camera and gave myself 10 seconds to move into Peaceful Warrior. The pose wasn’t the picture-perfect version you might imagine, but it brought me a profound sense of calm.
Winter has a way of teaching us that it’s not about perfection; it’s about presence. On the mat, as in life, it’s not how the pose looks—it’s how it feels. If it feels good for you, then it’s perfect. And as I often remind myself, practice makes permanent, not perfect. (Jackson and I talk about this a lot because like me, he's a perfectionist.)
Winter Wellness: Staying Balanced in the Cold
Winter is also a time to nourish the body with warming, grounding foods that align with the season’s needs. Incorporating root vegetables, soups and stews, kitchari, and bone broths into your diet can provide the warmth and sustenance your body craves. I’m currently making beef and chicken bone broths, which are rich in nutrients and deeply nourishing during the colder months.
I share recipes weekly on my website to inspire your Ayurvedic winter kitchen. From hearty soups and stews to nourishing kitchari and bone broths, there’s something for everyone looking to align their meals with the season. Be sure to visit my website to explore these recipes and bring the warmth of Ayurveda into your home.
As the days grow colder and the air drier, winter calls for grounding and nourishing rituals that keep us balanced. Here are a few practices I’ve incorporated into my routine to stay healthy and vibrant this season:
1. A Warm, Nourishing Morning Drink
Each morning, I start my day with a simple yet powerful drink to combat the cold, dry qualities of winter. I mix:
Warm water
Pink Himalayan salt
Black pepper
Turmeric
Moringa
Lemon juice
Ghee
This Ayurvedic blend helps warm my body, support digestion, and provide the grounding nourishment I need to begin my day with clarity and energy.
2. Abhyanga: Ayurvedic Oil Massage
Another favorite winter ritual is Abhyanga, a deeply warming oil massage that hydrates the skin, soothes the nervous system, and promotes overall balance. The warmth of the oil helps counteract the season’s cold and dryness, making it the perfect self-care practice during the winter months. This daily ritual keeps me deeply nourished and grounded, a moment of self-care that supports my overall well-being during the colder months.
Winter Abhyanga Offerings
To share the benefits of this deeply grounding practice, I’m offering special Abhyanga packages this winter:

Celebrating Winter’s Lessons
This solstice reminds me of the importance of slowing down, listening to the rhythms of the season, and finding peace in the present moment. Whether it’s through yoga, nourishing drinks, or Ayurvedic rituals like Abhyanga, winter invites us to nurture ourselves and embrace the beauty of stillness.
How are you celebrating the solstice or finding grounding this season? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Let’s honor winter together.
With love, light and peace,
Jennifer
